Lowenstein Medical

Delighted to be introducing this cost-effective Nasal Mask which is a quality German mask by Löwenstein and is virtually indestructable!

This new Cara CPAP Nasal Mask by the reputable German company, Löwenstein Medical, whilst cost-effective, this in no way is at the expense of quality, and in fact it you view the videos you can also have a couple of minutes of entertainment watching how virtually indestructable the mask is!   Apart from winning an award, the mask has proven to be so popular that Löwenstein have also now brought out a full face version for mouth breathers.

Hope2Sleep's Observations:-

  • Very light mask with soft cushioning.

  • Although there is a forehead support, it only gently rests on the forehead, and some people will find it actually doesn't need to touch the forehead at all.  The arm to the forehead support has been designed at an angle quite a way from the face, and  it may also be possible that there is enough space behind this arm to wear reading glasses (although people may wish to remove them before sleep in which case they would need to release the upper part of the mask's headgear).

  • Very cost-effective compared to the market price of quality masks.

  • There are no clips needed to the upper part of the headgear, and there are 2 different options for feeding the upper straps through the slots, depending on which works best.

Löwenstein Medical say:-

The lightweight CARA mask features a softly supple cushion with exact fit, a quiet diffuse exhalation system and other details that make life easier.

Advantages of CARA:

  • Very soft, supple mask cushion.
  • Lightweight at only 58-60 grams.
  • Small, quiet and diffuse exhalation system.
  • Headgear is OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 certified.
  • Color-coded headgear with intuitively used clips and EasyGrab.
  • Ball-and-socket joint for freedom of movement.
  • Extremely durable material.

The first impression is good and lasting. The soft and supple mask cushion fits snugly and hugs the contours of the face, making it optimum for long wearing comfort even without a forehead cushion.

The exhalation system located near the ball-and-socket joint has proved itself over the years.  The slotted openings yield a diffused air flow that does not disturb patient or bed mate whilst  the closed upper area prevents air from flowing toward the patient’s eyes.  The system has been perfected in the CARA family of masks.  The limited number of parts simplifies operation, reduces the mask’s weight and relieves the strain on the environment with less material production and disposal.

The Cara Nasal Mask is available in either XS, S/M or M/L and comes complete with the headgear and lower strap clips.

There is no downloadable template, but the cushion sizes are as follows:-

Size Width Height Depth
XS 72 mm 112 mm 70 mm
S/M 72 mm 117 mm 70 mm
M/L 72 mm 118 mm 70 mm

First nasal mask, took a punt
21 March 2024  |

I have been using full face masks for 4 years and had wanted to try a nasal. I suffer with sinus issues much of the year so not sure how often I will be able to wear but this was a lower cost trial. Night 1 was perfect. No leaks, comfortable and will be using as much as I can especially as my Healthboard has switched their mask to one I can’t get on with. I am a side sleeper and I wasn’t sure my mouth would stay shut. This is a nice mask. Can’t compare it to other nasals.

This sounds very positive with your first experience of trying a nasal mask instead of full face. Glad the Cara is working well for you.

Not recommended
18 February 2023  |

Overall the mask feels cheap compared to the Eson 2.
- The Silicone cushion is very thin and prone to leakage and moving when the airflow is high.
- The mask lacks air diffuser/filter for the excess air to get out.

Sorry you didn't get on with this mask, but it's important to correct you that there is an exhalation system located near the ball-and-socket joint, which all masks have to have to prevent a build-up of co2.

Good Service
25 April 2022  |

Hope to Sleep is a good charity and the delivery and service on products is excellent. The product arrived in super quick time and was exactly as described. Personally, not getting on very well with the mask at the moment, so gone back to the full face mask as supplied with mt CPAP machine.

So pleased to hear this 😊

Brilliant and good price
02 February 2021  |

Wasn’t sure how good this mask would be (especially at half the price of others). I’ve used the comfortgel range for a number of years and this is more comfortable and feels more rugged.

I still need a cloth liner (make my own) as the silicone flap leaks if not using a liner .

But brilliant, very happy so far!

Cara CPAP Mask
11 November 2019  |

Sorry to say this mask was rather disappointing the headgear strap was ill fitting and very flimsy.I could only recommend this to be purchased as a spare for use in a emergency. It was cheap, but still poor value for money

We're sorry too on hearing the mask doesn't suit you, as unfortunately what mask works for one person doesn't always work for another. Please contact us direct if you would like any advice.

21 October 2019  |

The headgear is comfortable but i find the mask leaks a lot, compared to other similar nasal masks I have used. The soft, flappy silicone edge that seals against your skin does not appear to be wide enough to create a secure seal. The slightest movement causes it to leak. The actual nasal bit is made of flexible plastic instead of regid plastic. I find this inadequate.
I have a small nose so use the XSmall size which is a good overall fit for me.
I will not buy this mask again.

Sorry to hear the mask hasn't proved as beneficial as you'd hoped, which is always a risk when we have to purchase online without being able to try them first. It could even be that you needed the next size up as masks aren't dependent upon the size of the nose, but it's important they fit the width securely. It would be worth trying a liner to see if that helps though. Thanks for your honest review.

We try our best to ship all orders received by us Monday-Friday on the same working day if received before 12 noon, and more often than not orders processed before 3pm will be despatched the same day whenever possible.  Weekend or UK bank holiday orders are sent out the next working day.  An automated email is sent when products have been despatched so please check your spam box and add us to your safe senders list.  Also, if you do not receive an email confirmation, please check that you have typed the correct email address in your account.

All orders are sent via 1st class mail within the UK.  Masks and some other more expensive products are always sent via 'signed for' insured delivery and cannot be left in 'safe' places, but there is the option for an alternative shipping address when processing the orders.

Delivery charges are worked out automatically by weight and you can clearly see the delivery charges before making a payment.  On the rare occasion delivery charges are miscalculated by the website, a refund will be sent, as it is not our policy to make money on postage charges and neither do we add the cost of delivery into the price and offer so-called  'free delivery' like some sites and Ebay pressurise sellers to do!

Wherever possible with larger parcels, we try to re-use boxes to keep shipping costs down and protect the environment.

If a product is out of stock and the order contains multiple items, the 'in stock' items will be sent immediately and further items will follow upon arrival with no further postage charges incurred.

Important for International Orders

We can ship most products internationally, but all prices are in UK British Pounds and if paying by debit or credit card the bank will automatically convert to the current conversation rate.  Likewise, if you choose the Paypal option, they will convert into your currency for you as payment is made.

International orders are sent via tracked Airmail, and whilst we're happy to ship internationally, we cannot be held responsible for any delays at Customs at your end, or charges that may be added in your own country, such as customs fees and import tax on delivery, which are determined by your country’s import laws and are beyond our control. Therefore, it is the customer’s responsibility to pay these charges, and certain courier companies will not be able to deliver the goods to you without pre-payment of any charges. From our experience, it appears to be randomised as to which parcels incur extra charges, but please know that all accompanying paperwork is filled in correctly when shipping and there is nothing more we can do, as much as we'd like to.

If you purchase from us out of the UK or you move to another country after purchasing products, please be aware that the warranty for CPAP machines, masks and parts from the manufacturers are under warranty  with the manufacturer based in the UK, so you will be responsible for sending the product back to us and will need to pay postage to get the product back to you after exchange or repair, as the manufacturer will not pay for shipping in any country outside of the UK.

Masks, CPAP machines and and most other products are exempt from a refund or exchange unless faulty due to health and hygiene issues - as stated in our 'Terms and Conditions', and in particular due to the risk of cross contamination as they cannot be re-sold. The Consumer Contracts Regulations 28.(3)(a) confirms exemption as follows:-  "exemption in the case of a contract for the supply of sealed goods which are not suitable for return due to health protection or hygiene reasons, if they become unsealed after delivery."

Unopened (sealed) products in their original packing can be returned within 14 days for a refund of the product cost, but the purchaser is to pay the return postage, and we would advise retaining proof of postage. This excludes any faulty goods, for which postage will be reimbursed.  A full refund for the price of the product will be issued when received by us, less the original postage charges when the order was sent to you.
