REVIEWS - The reviews on the website were from customers that were involved in the trials, so whilst it's clear to see when people have had instant success, bear in mind that with the negative ones the people only had a trial of a maximum of 2 nights, which is not always long enough to get used to a new product so might not be reliable.  Hopefully, the reviews will still be helpful though.

SleepSeal say:-

The SleepSeal Inhalation and Open Valve devices have been found to be highly effective in keeping the lips closed in many individuals who experience mouth leaks while using CPAP or other forms of positive pressure therapy.

In addressing mouth leaks, it can provide a more successful alternative to chin straps or full face masks and commonly completely eliminates mouth leaks.

This valve allows the user to breathe in comfortably as needed, while maintaining the natural lip seal during sleep to prevent mouth leaks and air escape out of the mouth during the night. It contains a one-way valve that directs air into the mouth if the user needs to breathe in, while prohibiting passive exhalation or air leakage. The user is able to forcefully exhale as needed. This valve can be used with CPAP or other PAP therapy to reduce or prevent mouth leaks.

INSTRUCTIONS:-

  1. Before wearing the device, make sure you do not have any residual makeup, oils, vaseline or anything else around your lips that could prevent the adhesive backing from sealing.  Your mouth and lips need to be very dry.
  2. Remove the plastic backing from the device to expose the tape.  Be careful not to tear the flaps.
  3. Close your mouth and lips normally.
  4. Position the device's valve centred directly over closed, unpursed lips and firmly press the valve into the lips.
  5. Firmly press and rub the tape starting from the valve and lip area in an outward direction until all of the tape is sealed well onto the lips and skin surrounding the mouth.
  6. Breathe normally through the nose.

THE SLEEPSEAL DEVICES ARE NOT A TREATMENT FOR SLEEP APNOEA; THEY ARE ONLY DEVICES DESIGNED TO MAINTAIN THE NATURAL LIP SEAL THAT NORMALLY OCCURS DURING SLEEP, IN INDIVIDUALS WHOSE MOUTHS FALL OPEN DURING SLEEP.

Really hope this becomes a staple offering to purchase through hope2sleep very soon. I found it very exceptionally helpful, unfortunately tried to buy through supplier but couldn’t.

mix n match

I tried these over a number of nights as I was careful applying and taking off, I love the valve size of the large and the plaster size of the medium, but thats an easy fix with a pair of scissors, I loved them, and would definitely look at using them when they are approved as long as the cost isn't ridiculous, its even encouraged me to look at nasal instead of full face which is getting on my nerves.

Loved It!
19 April 2021  |

I trialled both the medium and large product and loved them both. Though the medium gave me a better fit, I didn't have any problems with the larger one.

For context, I use a nasal mask, I mouth tape with transpore and wear and chin strap. I continued to wear the chin strap in the trial and used the valve instead of the tape. Although I'm quite ok with mouth taping, I found the valve to be a much more comfortable solution-I hardly knew it was there. I slept really well on the nights I used it. I found I could use each valve for 2 nights-I didn't try a third because it felt like the stickiness was starting to go.

I'm really looking forward to these coming on sale and, subject to price, will be using them straight away.

All round perfect service
06 April 2021  |

I added this free product to my order to see what it was like. Wasn't quite for me but the service I received from Hope2Sleep was first class with quality products at great prices. Would definitely come back to the store for my future needs.

Good idea but.......

This could be a good product for some people who use nasal masks, but not if you have facial hair- it doesn't stick adequately.

Would buy
04 March 2021  |

I was sent these as a sample with another order. I suffer a lot with a dry mouth, despite using a humidifier and xylimelts. I had been using large plasters to keep my mouth closed when particularly sore. These valves are great. The perfect shape for comfort and good adhesion unlike plasters I've previously been using.
Would definitely buy these, and hope they are priced reasonably as a lot of stuff related to sleep apnoea has a huge mark up.
Would absolutely reccomended these. With careful removal I got 4 nights from one patch.

Worked really well
02 March 2021  |

I received both the medium and large sizes to try. I applied the medium size on the first night after reading some of the reviews. It was easy to fix in place and felt secure overnight. I use a nasal mask now as the full face mask was filling me with air and drying out my mouth.

I wanted to see if it was comfortable and if it would be a good alternative to the chin strap which leaves visible marks on my face that take until lunchtime to disappear. Especially unwelcome if you're trying to apply your make up in the morning.

The adhesive side of the valve is very sticky which gives a really tight seal around your mouth and works very well at preventing mouth leaks. However, you need to brace yourself to peel it off in the morning as it can pull, a bit like removing a sticking plaster.

I was very happy with its efficacy overall and was eager to try the larger size the following night. It worked equally well even though it was a little bigger and was touching the base of my nose. I was pleased with the results and would definitely be interested in swapping to these disposables instead of the chinstrap. I found the feeling of having less attached to my face and head helped me relax and fall asleep more quickly and was cooler too.

There was only one negative I found which was that it's almost impossible to cough with it on so if you do need to cough in your sleep or as a result of a cold, keep your chinstrap handy to use until you're better. Just something to bear in mind.

Response:

Thanks for your very in-depth review and particularly agree with your last paragraph that if you're needing to cough in the night regularly then that's not the time to work at solutions to keep the mouth closed, and the use of a full face mask is better on those nights.

Not for sensitive skin.
27 February 2021  |

The one star rating is for my experience, not anyone else's. The inhalation valve sample stuck to my skin like crazy and was extremely difficult to remove. I woke up during the night coughing from asthma and it was especially distressing to remove the mask quickly under these conditions. My neck cushion for chin support is still the most effective solution to keep my mouth closed while sleeping - for me.

Response:

You're exactly correct in saying that although this didn't work for you it does work for others, as we're all so different. Sorry to hear it was difficult to remove quickly - again not the same for everyone as some wish it was sticker. If only everything worked the same for us all, and I'm the same as you in preferring to use the neck cushion 😊 Worth a try though! Kath

Not for me
25 February 2021  |

I was really looking forward to trying these out, and to be fair I followed the instructions and I fell asleep right away with no problems. I woke in the night to go to the bathroom and found that the SleepSeal Inhalation Valve had peeled off mostly. I tried to refix it but with not much success so I held it in place with one finger while I re-fitted my mask to try and keep the SleepSeal Inhalation Valve in place. I think it might have stayed in place but for the fact that I felt like I could hardly draw a breath in. I tried hard to keep calm and let the breathing settle down, but it was beginning to panic me because I was struggling to get enough air. I had to remove it and didn't try it again.

This is so typical Barbara how we all have different experiences, as just today another reviewer said they were too sticky for her. Worth a try though.

ORDERS

Shipping

We try our best to ship all orders received by us Monday-Friday on the same working day if received before 12 noon, and more often than not orders processed before 3pm will be despatched the same day whenever possible.  Weekend or UK bank holiday orders are sent out the next working day.  An automated email is sent when products have been despatched so please check your spam box and add us to your safe senders list.  Also, if you do not receive an email confirmation, please check that you have typed the correct email address in your account.

All orders are sent via 1st class mail within the UK.  Masks and some other more expensive products are always sent via 'signed for' insured delivery and cannot be left in 'safe' places, but there is the option for an alternative shipping address when processing the orders.

Delivery charges are worked out automatically by weight and you can clearly see the delivery charges before making a payment.  On the rare occasion delivery charges are miscalculated by the website, a refund will be sent, as it is not our policy to make money on postage charges and neither do we add the cost of delivery into the price and offer so-called  'free delivery' like some sites and Ebay pressurise sellers to do!

Wherever possible with larger parcels, we try to re-use boxes to keep shipping costs down and protect the environment.

If a product is out of stock and the order contains multiple items, the 'in stock' items will be sent immediately and further items will follow upon arrival with no further postage charges incurred.

Important for International Orders

We can ship most products internationally, but all prices are in UK British Pounds and if paying by debit or credit card the bank will automatically convert to the current conversation rate.  Likewise, if you choose the Paypal option, they will convert into your currency for you as payment is made.

International orders are sent via tracked Airmail, and whilst we're happy to ship internationally, we cannot be held responsible for any delays at Customs at your end, or charges that may be added in your own country, such as customs fees and import tax on delivery, which are determined by your country’s import laws and are beyond our control. Therefore, it is the customer’s responsibility to pay these charges, and certain courier companies will not be able to deliver the goods to you without pre-payment of any charges. From our experience, it appears to be randomised as to which parcels incur extra charges, but please know that all accompanying paperwork is filled in correctly when shipping and there is nothing more we can do, as much as we'd like to.

If you purchase from us out of the UK or you move to another country after purchasing products, please be aware that the warranty for CPAP machines, masks and parts from the manufacturers are under warranty  with the manufacturer based in the UK, so you will be responsible for sending the product back to us and will need to pay postage to get the product back to you after exchange or repair, as the manufacturer will not pay for shipping in any country outside of the UK.

RETURNS

Masks, CPAP machines and and most other products are exempt from a refund or exchange unless faulty due to health and hygiene issues - as stated in our 'Terms and Conditions', and in particular due to the risk of cross contamination as they cannot be re-sold. The Consumer Contracts Regulations 28.(3)(a) confirms exemption as follows:-  "exemption in the case of a contract for the supply of sealed goods which are not suitable for return due to health protection or hygiene reasons, if they become unsealed after delivery."

Unopened (sealed) products in their original packing can be returned within 14 days for a refund of the product cost, but the purchaser is to pay the return postage, and we would advise retaining proof of postage. This excludes any faulty goods, for which postage will be reimbursed.  A full refund for the price of the product will be issued when received by us, less the original postage charges when the order was sent to you.
